Day 6: Further Internshippening
So day 6 already, that means that tomorrow is the last day I will be at TASIS. Today I noticed that in such a short time, everyone got used to me being at TASIS. The kids walk up to me and ask me about Holland and ask me questions about their work (even if I have no idea of what they are doing or what they are learning about). But I got used to TASIS as well. I now use the bus without any problems, I got used to talking English all the time and I even remember the names of all the students in the class of Mr. Nijenhuis. Today the day started with another SAT-10 test, about spelling and language. And like previous days it gave me an opportunity to get my own work done. After the SAT-10 test the students got some recess and then continued with math. But because of the tests this week Mr. Nijenhuis did not give any homework for any of the subjects so, instead of math lesson, the class played a math game called Math Millionaire. It works like the game show ‘’Who wants to be a millionaire?’’ but then all the questions are about math. Then the students went to the Art class, which is done by another teacher. The teacher there had some work for me, She was organizing an Art Exhibition with the students of the primary school. There were still some preparations that had to be made, so while the students were painting I helped her out with those preparations. I had to ‘’improve’’ one of the artworks made by one of the 3rd grade students and I made some signs for the exhibition. And then it was lunchtime already. Today I got a typical American meal: Fries and hamburgers. The lessons then continued with two languages on the schedule: English and Italian. During English the students now had to come up with their own poems, describing an animal and using the stylistic devices they had learned. They would ask me if they had done it correctly, but I was not supposed to give advice or criticism in any way, as they needed to make the poems by themselves. Just when they were finished with their poetry it was time already for Italian. I guess it was still about animals. The students had to compare two animals using the comparative and superlative in Italian. They would actually all turn to me and ask me which animal was faster: ‘’la balena’’ or ‘’ il delfino’’. And then, after the Italian lessons, the students and I were sent back home. Another bus ride which went well (I even bought a ticket from a bus driver who did not speak English whatsoever) and I was back at the hotel where I had a chicken-curry meal and an evening to get some rest. See you tomorrow, which will be the last day of my internship already.
